Georgia and Tom were parents to be of twins- Effie and Aris. However, sixteen weeks into her pregnancy, she and Tom learned that Effie had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), a life threatening disorder in which insufficient development of the diaphragm leads to lungs so small they may not be able to support life. With little hope of survival, and the possibility of losing both of their unborn children, Effie’s parents searched the nation for an expert to save their child. They found their ray of hope at Shands Children’s Hospital, where twins Effie and Aris were delivered and cared for. She’s had a few operations along the way, but today Effie is a happy and healthy 3 year-old.
