Climb for Cancer continues their campaign of giving

A longtime supporter of the UF Health Cancer Center, the Climb for Cancer Foundation began when co-founder and mountain climber, Ron Farb, decided to combine his thirst for adventure with his desire to see an end to cancer in his lifetime.

Since 2002, he has climbed five of the seven summits—the highest mountain in each of the seven continents—helping the foundation raise over $2 million for psychosocial, cancer research and related support programs. Ron and his wife, Dianne, created the foundation to help those affected by cancer and to help ease the pain and suffering of those affected by the disease.

“We are so proud and honored to support the incredible work being done by all the wonderful healthcare workers in Oncology at UF Health,” said Farb.

Thank you to the Climb for Cancer Foundation for their annual gift in support of the UF Health Cancer Center. This year, the foundation donated more than $105,000 to benefit a range of oncology programs at UF Health, both for pediatric and adult patients and their families.

“We’re so grateful to Climb for Cancer for their unwavering support,” shared Jonathon D. Licht, M.D., director of the University of Florida Cancer Center. “Their resources allow us to care for the whole patient; body and soul. Thank you!”

The foundation’s enduring generosity and support have benefited a variety of programs, such as Streetlight, Arts in Medicine, Palliative Care and Adult Oncology Housing. These programs help care providers to focus on treating the whole patient and provide much-needed support to patients’ families.

“Climb for Cancer provides funding for key programs to fund psychological counseling, peer support through Streetlight, and resources allowing our social workers to provide housing, meals and transportation to our patients and their families,” shared William B. Slayton, M.D., chief of pediatric hematology and oncology.

“Fighting cancer is like climbing a mountain. Climb for Cancer is there to ease the burdens of our kids and families during that stressful journey!” said Slayton.
