Thinking of donating a gift to the patients at Shands Hospital for Children at the University of Florida? Your contributions make a difference! Our Wish List can make the most of your donation efforts. Did you know that Shands Hospital for Children can only accept donations of brand new toys?

Are you wondering what donations are appropriate and are needed at Shands Hospital for Children? We created this Wish List to help you. When shopping for donations, please remember we cannot accept used or religious items or items that have violent themes; and prefer unwrapped gifts.

Patients treated at Shands Hospital for Children can benefit from generous donations throughout the year.

Shands Hospital for Children at UF Child Life Program serves patients aged newborn to 21+ years.  We have 88 general pediatric beds; 24 intensive care beds.  (There are also 52 neo-natal intensive care beds.)

For the general pediatric population (approximately 100 beds) the general breakdown is 20 beds each: Infants, Pre-school, School Age, Pre-adolescent, and Adolescent/ Young Adult.

Specific character items are always appreciated!  Spongebob, Shrek, Spiderman, Dora, Thomas the Train, Phineas and Ferb, Scooby Doo, Elmo, Cars etc. For infection control purposes stuffed toys, cloth items are not acceptable. No latex balloons (choking hazard and latex allergy). Mylar (foil) balloons are OK.

Number 1 Wish List Items – GIFT CARDS

Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Target, I-Tunes, Best Buy, Gas cards, Phone cards, American Express, and Publix.  The beauty of a gift card is that it can become a personalized gift for an individual person regardless of age. Your donated gift card can help us purchase toys and much needed diversionary items to benefit our patients all year long. In addition, Social Work Services will help us direct your donated gift card to a patient’s family dealing with the financial burden of miscellaneous household expenses (gas, bills, and groceries) during their child’s hospitalization.

Number 2 Wish List Items –  MUSIC / ELECTRONICS

CD players,  portable DVD players, DVD’s rated G / PG / PG-13 (updated titles), Nintendo DS games and game systems, PS3 games/controllers, X-Box-360 games/controllers, and Nintendo Wii games/controllers. All Games to be rated –E for everyone or rated T.  Relaxation CD’s, kids music CD’s, teen music CD’s (clean lyrics).  Spanish books, music Cd’s and movies.  I-pads, lap top computers, disposable cell phones, digital cameras.

Number 3 Wish List Items – GIFT GIVEAWAY TOYS

Small / Medium size bubble bottles, stickers, small cars and small dolls, I Spy books, and large button and sound books. Classic board games, word searches, and UNO Cards. 24- 100 piece puzzles, Duplos (small sets 10-25 pieces), Legos (small set 25-35 pieces), Bionicles sets, 3-D wooden puzzles, dinosaurs, kids science kits, small trains, balls, Play-Doh, Fisher Price doctor kits, Fisher Price little people, Mr. Potato head with outfits, and Transformers.

Number 4 Wish List Items – NEWBORNS & INFANTS

All plastic mobiles (eg. Sassy), crib toys, Medicator (medication nipple by Munchkin), teethers, rattles, Exersuacers, walkers, activity gyms, playmats (please try and choose all plastic models), lullaby CD’s. *All items must be easy to clean and disinfect for infection control purposes. Please avoid cloth material items unless it is removable to be washed in the laundry.

Number 5 Wish List Items – HEALING THROUGH ART

Crayola Crayons, coloring books, Crayola Washable Markers, Crayola Washable Water Colors, construction paper, Extreme Colors Cardstock, 8 x 10 canvas boards, wooden crafts kits, sun catchers with paints, paint pens, model car kits, and Velvet Visions posters with markers.
