UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital
The UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital and the Shands Critical Care Center, is a $388-million, 500,000-square-foot facility that houses 192 private patient rooms for a variety of inpatients, including those receiving diagnostic and therapeutic oncology services, and a variety of outpatient and medical services including emergency and trauma services. UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital is located across the street from the UF Health Shands Hospital academic medical center on Southwest Archer Road in Gainesville.
The cancer hospital complex was designed to be a welcoming, family friendly place. It offers the Garden of Hope, the Criser Cancer Resource Center, training rooms and the Shands at UF Auxiliary Conference Center with public space for community health fairs, screenings and educational workshops on health issues such as cancer prevention and treatment. The hospital was built in response to increased demand for cancer services. One of every seven adult patients hospitalized at UF Health Shands Hospital comes to us with a cancer-related condition.
The Raising Hope for Cancer campaign began in 2007 with a goal to raise $55 million. At the close of the campaign, our goal was exceeded, raising $56.5 million – $26.5 million of this money went to research and $33 million went to help construct the UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital. Whether you gave $20 or $10 million, we hope you know that your gift helps all of those battling cancer in Florida.
